Seeking a smaller, quieter replacement for a noisy home server
The current is a desktop with 32GB of , an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super , a 512GB NVMe drive, and a 1TB hard drive. It has enough power to run multiple services, but the case is unnecessarily large and the fans are too loud.
The noise forced it into an office away from the router. The old house has no Ethernet wiring, and powerline adapters do not work reliably with its aging electrical system.
MoCA equipment, which could carry the network over existing coaxial cable, was considered but abandoned. The goal is a small, quiet computer or mini PC that can handle all the same services.
