Side project has traffic but zero paying customers so far
The project started as an AI tool that creates Notion widgets: you describe what you want, pick a style, and it generates and hosts the widget so you can embed it in Notion. That was the whole product at first. Later, a catalog of free, ready-made widgets was added just to make the site feel less empty, with the hope it would funnel people toward the paid AI generator.
Instead, that free catalog became the main driver of traffic. Over the last 28 days: 563 viewed 2,534 pages, 137 people copied a free widget's embed URL, 44 clicked the AI Generate button, and 56 reached the paywall. So people are actively using the free widgets, and some show enough interest to hit the paywall, but every single one of them drops off there — zero purchases.
Rather than tweak pricing on a small sample, the plan is to wait until roughly 300 to 400 people have seen the paywall; if purchases are still at zero at that point, the pricing, the offer itself, or the whole model will be reconsidered.
Key points
- Original product: an AI tool that generates and hosts Notion widgets
- A free widget catalog, added just to fill out the site, became the main traffic source instead
- Over 28 days: 563 , 56 reached the paywall, 0 purchases
- Decided to wait for 300-400 paywall views before changing pricing, to avoid reacting to a small sample
- If purchases stay at zero by then, plans to rethink pricing, the offer, or the whole model
