A temporary home server built from used parts

A working home lab setup was built from second-hand parts. The main hardware includes a Ryzen 5950X, RoG Ally, X570 Dark Hero board, 9070XT , and 64GB of . Storage is split by purpose: a 500GB for booting, a 1TB for games, and a 4TB Seagate drive for media.

A 256GB is planned for Frigate once a Coral device arrives. The whole setup is currently sitting in the kitchen because there are no network data points elsewhere.

Key points

  • Used parts can still make a capable home lab machine.
  • Storage is separated for boot, games, media, and camera software.
  • Frigate will get its own once Coral arrives.
  • Lack of network data points can force an awkward temporary location.
