SK hynix may slow some HBM4 moves to focus on DRAM
SK hynix is reportedly slowing the move of some HBM3E lines to HBM4. The company is said to be doing this so it can respond faster to demand for general-purpose DRAM.
The reason is money: general DRAM currently has a higher operating than HBM, so it may bring in more extra revenue. This could mean part of the supply ramp for memory is being adjusted.
Key points
- SK hynix is reportedly delaying some HBM3E-to-HBM4 changes.
- The shift is meant to improve response to demand for general-purpose DRAM.
- General DRAM is said to have a higher operating than HBM right now.
- AI hardware supply could be affected if advanced HBM expansion slows.
