Before building a web app, find who already wants the fix

Many early fail because nobody is waiting for them, not because the product itself is badly built. The risky pattern is starting with a solution, spending months making it, and only then trying to find people who feel the problem. A stronger path is to choose a narrow customer group first.

It should be specific enough that their online hangouts are easy to find, instead of a broad label like “small es” or “.” Then watch those places closely, such as Reddit threads, groups, and small communities. Look for repeated complaints, disliked tools, missing , and problems people would pay to remove. When three different people describe the same frustration, that can become the product idea.

When a first version is ready, those same people are because they already know the problem and may be open to buying a fix.

Key points

  • Do not build first and search for customers later.
  • Pick a narrow customer group that can be found online.
  • Use Reddit, groups, and small communities to spot repeated pain.
  • Three separate people naming the same frustration is a useful signal.
  • Return to those same people when the first version is ready.
