Gemini crashes on a task other AI models finish, then asks for full Gmail access
A user who pays for and regularly uses Claude, GPT, Grok, and Gemini in parallel ran the identical coding task through all four: build a working HTML file from instructions and data that were already prepared. Claude, GPT, and even Grok, usually considered the weakest of the group, completed the task cleanly. Gemini crashed repeatedly and never produced the file, even after trying from 3.1 Pro mode down to the lightest .
Later the same day, the user asked Gemini to do something trivial: organize a few already-written sentences into a clean short email, with no research, no data lookup, and no account access needed. Instead, Gemini asked to be granted access to the user's entire Gmail account, including Email, Drive, and Docs.
Key points
- Same coding task (produce a working HTML file) run identically across Claude, GPT, Grok, and Gemini
- Claude, GPT, and Grok finished cleanly; Gemini crashed from 3.1 Pro mode down to and never produced the file
- A trivial email-formatting request triggered a mpt asking for full Gmail account access (Email, Drive, Docs)
- User runs s to multiple AI tools in parallel and compares them on identical tasks
