Parent uses Claude to build a piano practice game for their 7-year-old

A parent whose 7-year-old is learning piano struggled to get the child to practice Hanon exercises regularly, so they turned the practice into a game. An initial version was built with Gemini, and Claude later expanded it into a multi-chapter pixel-art adventure game, now available at pianoquest.cc.

The feature, which is meant to detect what the child is playing, still works poorly, and the best way to fix it hasn't been figured out yet. Still, after were added to the game, the child now looks forward to finding them and, as a result, to practicing piano.

  • The finished game is playable at pianoquest.cc
  • (detecting what's being played) is still inaccurate and unresolved
  • Adding made the child look forward to practice
