A beginner plan for running Proxmox on a mini PC server

Immich did not install smoothly through Synology’s container manager, so a separate small server now looks more useful and easier to grow over time. The plan is to buy a mini PC, install Proxmox, create one , install Linux and Docker inside it, and run Immich in a container. Later, Plex and could also move into , with room to add a or other services.

Proxmox is attractive mainly because it can make backups easier. Starting with one feels enough because these services are not expected to need heavy at first. If resource control becomes important later, more can be added.

The main question is whether this setup has clear weak points, beginner traps, or better alternatives.

Key points

  • The Synology container setup for Immich did not go well, leading to a separate mini server plan.
  • The proposed setup is Proxmox, one , Linux, Docker, and Immich in a container.
  • Plex, , and a could be added later on the same machine.
  • Proxmox is being considered mainly for easier backups.
  • The plan starts simple with one , then adds more only if resource control becomes necessary.
